Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis invited young learners of the Greek language from around the world to visit Greece in the summer of 2021 during a special teleconference on Monday with teachers from sixteen schools worldwide. The
conference was held to discuss the progress of the Greek language platform staellinika.com, an initiative of the Stavros Niarchos Foundation Centre for Hellenic Studies at Simon Fraser University in collaboration with the General Secretariat for Greeks Abroad and the Greek Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The platform aims to work towards the advancement of teaching in order to preserve the Greek language in the diaspora, and it is part of a two-year program known as “Rebooting the Greek Language” which is supported by the SNF.
“We have a digital tool for learning the Greek language that makes us of the richness of Greek history and Greek mythology to keep our language alive,” Mr Mitsotakis said.
During the meeting, Mr Mitsotakis spoke in Greek to children around the globe and invited them to visit Greece for two weeks in the summer of 2021 in order to have an immersive cultural experience while learning the language.
